Learning your child has been diagnosed with cancer is difficult and raises a lot of questions about what happens next and most importantly, what is the best possible care for your child? At Naturopathic Specialists our philosophy is simple: to provide integrative quality cancer care.
How we serve children battling cancer
Our doctors and team work together to provide personalized comprehensive care to help guide you through your child’s treatment journey. Naturopathic oncology, provided by licensed naturopathic doctors (NDs), aims to manage side effects, facilitate recovery, prevent recurrence and help adopt a healthy lifestyle. We do not practice naturopathic oncology as an alternative form of medicine but rather, in conjunction of conventional oncology with an integrative oncology approach. We offer a wide range of safe and effective complimentary treatments.
Our goal
We provide tailored support to children of all ages diagnosed with cancer to help them heal and optimize their quality and length of life. Our top priority is meeting your treatment goals by providing the best care through safety. Unfortunately, there is little data about combining herbal medications and supplements with conventional chemotherapy in children. We understand that certain supplements and treatments, although labeled ‘natural’, may not be safe or can make side effects worse. Our goal is to educate you on the integrative approaches that are safe and effective.
Our approach
Natural Health Products
Many chemotherapy treatments and conventional drugs come with side effects such as constipation, diarrhea, altered taste, fatigue, neuropathy and can be damaging to vital organs including the heart, bone, liver and kidneys. We utilize professional grade natural health products (botanicals, homeopathy and supplements) to prevent and reduce side effects.
Nutritional Counseling
Children with cancer are at risk for developing nutritional problems related to their underlying disease and side effects of treatment. We believe nutritional support is an integral part of the healing pathway. By continuing to support growth and development with food as medicine, we empower your child to better tolerate treatment and reduce risk of developing infections (Pedretti, 2023).
